A retired teacher named Telma Guadagnini França recorded her frustration in a viral video after waiting in line for hours and being unable to board a cruise in Brazil due to overbooking.
Telma Guadagnini França, 53, was unable to board the On Board Entretenimento cruise due to overbooking. She captured the chaos at the Port of Santos, Brazil, which took place between March 20 and 21.
Telma had purchased tickets with her husband to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The cruise was scheduled to depart from the Port of Santos on March 20 and return on March 23 after stopping in Angra dos Reis.
In a statement, Costa Cruzeiro and On Board explained that passengers were unable to board “due to operational and technical failures, which are still being investigated, some passengers were unable to board as planned.”
The police report states that around 250 tourists were unable to board the cruise. The company had expected 3,404 people to disembark from the cruise so that 1,953 new passengers could board on the 20th.
Telma commented that she waited for hours in line alongside elderly people and parents with young children. She reported that the company offered them hotel rooms in the city, but passengers had to wait on the floor.
She paid approximately $1,400 in cash for the cabin package.
“This psychological damage will never be compensated because it was an important date for us, one we wanted to spend on this ship, with these singers, with this theme. And in the end, we went through hell,” the retired teacher lamented.
